Concussion Information

Hopefully a concussion never happens to you or anyone in your family, but it is a risk in many activities including speed skating.  This video explains concussion symptoms and return to activities.  It is a great presentation for athletes and parents.

A slideboard will help you with your strength and conditioning for speed skating. Did we mention that they are free?

Speed Skating Practice Times

ICSS
Monday/Thursday 4:30-5:00 pm

SSI 
Monday/Thursday 5:00 – 5:50 pm

SSII
Monday/Thursday 5:50 – 6:45 pm

Sundays for All Groups:  Bring a Friend/Family Skate 7:00 – 7:30 pm – no crash mats

SSIII
Sunday: 6:00 -7:00 pm    
Monday/Thursday:  7:00-8:30 pm

Warmup for SSIII practices starts 30 minutes before the practice time.  Please be on time as 15 minutes is a very short warmup.

Warmup usually consists of:

  • 2 laps of easy running,
  • dynamic stretching (stretching while moving to target calves, hips, hamstrings, quads, shoulders; could include low walks etc),
  • static stretches targetting quads, hamstrings, calves, and hips
  • either 2-4 sprints (60m straightaway) OR the stationary bike if time.  

This warmup should be approx. 15 min allowing the rest of the time to change in time for practice.

Speed Skating II/III Dryland Training Days/Times

Dryland training for Speed Skaters (SSII and SSIII) will take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 6:30 – 7:30 pm at the Servus Centre track.

SSIII athlete Ryan D. is continuing with the Tuesday practices for now and SSIII coach Richard Jory is running the Wednesday practices.

Important: Please bring money for using the track.

Student (14-17):  $3.25   (10 punch pass – partial = $29.25)
Child (13 and younger): $2.00  (10 punch pass – partial = $18.00)
