Border Blades Successful at Westerns!

Congratulations to all skaters who attended the Canada West Short Track Championships in Selkirk, Manitoba on March 21-22, 2015.

2015 Canada West Short Track Championship Results

On March 21st and 22nd, the Lloydminster Border Blades sent six of our top T2T aged skaters into Selkirk to compete at the Canada West Short Track Championship. Ben Wright, Emma Stephens, Brooke Jory, Shaye Holzinger, Venna Andersen, and Jelena Parr represented Team Alberta against the top skaters from the four western provinces and the Territories. Our skaters battled hard, and represented our club and province very well.
Day one saw a podium finish for Ben Wright in the T2T13 Boys 400m sprint, winning the silver. Venna Andersen narrowly missed the podium for the T2T11 Girls sprint, with a fall eliminating her from the medals.
Day two opened with the 200m events, and our T2T11 Girls came out on fire! Venna Andersen had to settle for the bronze after another crash set her back in a tight race with the leader. Jelena Parr raced season best times in her Pursuit and MS to end up in fourth.
The 3000m Points races saw five of our six skaters featured in the A Mains. Benn Wright gutted out a new PB to finish in fourth amid a very tight field.
The Relay Finals had Emma and Brooke skating as AB2 SR Girls, and Jelena, Venna, and Shaye skating as AB2 JR Girls.  Our Jr team lost a close heat, but skated really well to win the consolation. In what looked to be a battle for second, Emma edged out the BC Team at the wire for second, and a costly penalty eliminated AB1. Relay Gold for Brooke and Emma as AB2!
After all the points were counted, Team Alberta won the overall points for the second year in a row!
It was a great trip with some excellent racing to finish off the T2T season! Our skaters faced some great competition, and rose to the challenge.  By skating some of their best races of the year, they tallied up an impressive 11 out of 18 new PB’s and all six finished in the top 10 in Western Canada!
